I just got this in my inbox. It’s not that I don’t believe they have these for sale. This is a reputable scientific equipment supplier, and I am a bona fide researcher and previous customer. But still, this strikes me as being in poor taste. They don’t list the price in their email. I wonder how much they are gouging for these. I’ll not be calling them to find out.
In case anyone didn’t already know this, N95 class respirators are the masks most effective at filtering out contagion, because when worn properly, they give a good seal and force all air though a higher quality filter than most surgical masks have. Front line health care workers who interact with covid -19 patients and are at high risk are experiencing short supplies of these. It is not cool to hoard them or promote their hoarding .
Hello,
I hope all is well during this crazy time.
Are you in need of any N95/KN95 masks?
If so, call 800-227-9997 to place your order for KN95 Masks. The PDF File is your official quote.
We have a current stock of over 1000cases (500 masks/per case).
It is first come, first serve situation, and there is a no case limit for each order.
If you are not the correct person to order these, please pass this information along. I know a lot of people are looking for these masks.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email or call me.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Idk if it will make a difference but I saw US Attorney General was going to crack down on price gouging and exploitation of the crisis. May want to refer it directly or to your states AG to keep them aware.

Unsolicited, I’d be wary of that being a spoofed email from someone doing an alphabet attack on an email list. I wouldn’t open that .pdf.

I recently r eceived an email from Nine Line about their new masks: https://www.ninelineapparel.com/products/nine-line-containment-mask-10-pk
When worn, this one-size-fits-all mask reduces respiratory droplet transmission by the wearer. Already being distributed to the first responder community, Nine Line & its partners have vowed to now provide these at cost to our consumers.
Complete with disclaimer at the bottom :
This mask is not intended to act as a medical device or other medical product, and Bella+Canvas, LLC makes no warranties, either expressed or implied, that the mask prevents infection or the transmission of viruses or diseases.

What ITA97 said. I’d be wary of it being a spoof.
That, or report them to the AG.

Good thinking, but in this case the email is legit from Midsci.

Wow. It’s just a home made cloth mask. I wouldn’t trust it for any real protection. In fact, all it claims is to contain droplets from the wearer. But if you think you may be sick, you shouldn’t be out or in contact with others.

I’ve known a few medical device sales reps in my day, and they are the scum of the earth. I was not surprised in the least that we have equipment shortages. My sister just ended her first shift in a Covid unit and is headed over to my place to pic up some masks my wife sew(n)? up for her. Her FIL owns a weed control company and also gave her all his N99 masks. Pretty sad when a weed control guy has better PPE than a hospital.
I don’t think my wife’s masks are going to do much to stop a virus, but they definitely offer psychological support for the nurses without masks.

Well, your state of mind is important in these situations. I’m just sad that she won’t have anything better to wear on duty.

She has proper PPE when with patients, especially in the Covid unit. However, because of short supplies was told not to wear a mask when not working directly with patients. Admins changed their tune on Friday when tests came back and the confirmed cases spiked. She was gonna wear a mask regardless of what the admins said. They already had nurses quitting over this policy. There are qu ite a few people who deserve to have their heads on the cutting block when this is over. Both literally and figuratively.

Well thank goodness she’ll have a mask on the ward anyway.

She’s been seeing patients with flu like symptoms but negative flu tests for a few months now in her clinicals, and is fairly certain we’ve all been exposed. My fam is very close and gets together for a meal at least once a week. We locked my grandma down a few weeks ago. I’m more concerned about the mental health aspects of all this right now.

It’s not a trivial concern. I’m a little worried about my dad. Without going to work, he’ll have to do more to keep him mind off missing Mom.
